The Missouri Juneteenth Heritage & Jazz Festival is an annual celebration of emancipation that commemorates an event and spirit that took place in Texas many years ago which takes place in Missouri . The event rotates between the states two urban cities, St. Louis and Kansas City, were African American heritage and cultural lifestyles still flourish. The event is a multi-day smorgasbord of activities that honor and highlight the contributions of African Americans in many arena's of their heritage that have become invaluable to the American culture. Special emphasis is given to the music artistry of jazz, blues and ragtime, which continue to be part of Missouri's rich musical heritage. African American arts and other organizations across the state are encouraged to participate in compiling a single orchestrated event and state marketing campaign over the days of the Festival. Food and craft vendors supply festival-goer with a wide variety of cuisines and artifacts reflective of longtime regional specialities that make for a spirited, educational and fun-filled experience for all ages. |
